Limit, or near limit catches of coho can be expected during the peak times. In Milwaukee they are very easy to target early in the season. Just like steelhead, they are predominantly surface feeders early on, which allows us to run a huge spread of baits. Doubles and triples are the norm when coho fishing. Coho salmon average in size from 4 to 6 pounds, they aren’t known for how big they get, but are perfect for the grill. Peak fishing time for coho salmon in Milwaukee is early May through mid-June. We still catch a lot of them after that, but they begin to move offshore later in the fishing season, and they move around a lot. If you want salmon, this is the time frame for you.
